As workers all over the world commemorate this year's workers day, I most sincerely wish to express my profound gratitude to all Ebonyi workers for their resilience and dedication to duty.
Despite the fact that the entire country has been through a lot of challenges in recent times ranging from harsh economy to the covid -19, pandemic, we are grateful to God for keeping us safe in all these.
The Administration of Engr Chief David Nweze Umahi, no doubt has paid adequate dues in the areas of Infrastructure, Agriculture, Education as well as Human Capital Development, but has thrived best in welfare of Civil/Public servants.
Six years down the line Governor Umahi has remained the most workers friendly Governor with testimonies and titles among which is (Enyi ndi oru) meaning ‘a friend of the workers’
Engr Umahi’s unwavering commitment in the area of workers’ welfare; a gesture that has attracted workers friendly disposition and trust, had no doubt practically spurred workers performance and productivity to a greater height.
Since the inception of His Excellency, Engr Chief David Umahi as the Governor of Ebonyi State, his Administration, has been noted with rare proclivity to matters that concern workers, with rare strides. These among other achievements include;
Sustained Regular Payment of Workers salaries from 2015 till date.
Increased Workers Salaries, which was first approved on 1st October, 2016.
Payment of the new minimum Wage with effect from Januarary 2020.
Payment of Repatriation allowance to retiring staff.
Conducted six months mandatory Conversion course for Chief Driver Motor Mechanics in 2015 and 2018 and 2020 as a way of upgrading them.
Regular payment of Pensions to retirees in the State and Local Government System.
Payment of 40% gratuity to retired Civil/Public Servants; with intention of paying additional percentage.
Procurement of four (4) air-conditioned Luxurious Buses to Ebonyi workers to ease their transportation challenges, especially as they relocated to the Ochu udo Centenary City.
Provision of yearly Christmas Largesse with the popular 13th month salary and new year special percentage package.
Payment of N4b (single digit interest) soft loan to over ten (10) thousand workers in Ebonyi State.
Organized first ever Agricultural Summit for Ebonyi workers with a view to their having second address.
Attracted Home Renovation Loan to 450 Civil/Public Servants from Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) between N250,000 (two hundred and fifty thousand Naira) and N1,000,000 (one million Naira).
Allocation of 72 Nos. flats at Ezzangbo Housing Estates to Civil/Public Servants.
Anchored on the Governor’s five-fold covenant with God, Civil/Public Servants were engaged in routine daily morning devotion. This was an innovation as it has not been the practice before now.
Sustained Computer revolving scheme for Civil Servants which is up and running.
Payment of Burial Benefits to the next of kins of deceased Civil Servants for 2015 to 2017 has been concluded as approved by Government.
Sponsored the state’s team Participation in the 40th meeting of National Council on Establishment held in Owerri, Imo State from 12th-16th February, 2018.
All these milestones were achieved by a generous and magnanimous Governor who has always sought better working conditions for the entire workforce of Ebonyi state despite all other numerous infrastructural and economic transformation on-going simultaneously across the length and breadth of the entire state.
We thank His Excellency, the worker friendly Governor for all these kind gestures and congratulate him also on the monumental achievements of his purposeful administration.
Recently, a ceremony marking the award of excellent performance to 387 best performing civil servants nominated from all the MDAs in Ebonyi state was held at the conference Hall of the office of the Head of Service on the 18th of March 2021 and was a clear indication of dedication to duty on the part of then civil servants in a bead to reciprocate the kind gestures extended to them by His Excellency.
I therefore charge workers in the state to continue to put in their best in the discharge of their duties in their different ministries as no hard work goes unrewarded.
I most humbly and respectfully appreciate His Excellency, Engr Chief David Nweze Imagination, the worker friendly Governor of Ebonyi state, for the numerous welfare packages which workers in the state have enjoyed and attributed same to creating an enabling environment for excellent performance.
I also wish to heartily congratulate all Ebonyi workers and encourage them not to relent in the discharge of their duties but should put in their best to support the efforts of this present administration in building a formidable civil service as those who are dedicated to their duties are always on record and could be lucky to be recommended for recognition just as defaulters and truants are punished accordingly.
I encourage us to continue to cooperate with government as we work to revive back the economy.
