A popular maxim of the igbo tribe has this to say "Etoo Dike na nke omere, omekwaa ozo". It simply means when you thank a benefactor for what he has done, he receives vigour to do more.
Since the creation of Imo State in 1976 by General Murtala Mohammed, administrations have come and gone, both military and civilian. Each of them tried their best in making the standard of living of Imolites better.
The Eastern Heartland, which is the gateway to South Eastern states, has seen various levels of infrastructural activity.
The regime of the first civilian Government of Imo State under the leadership of the Avutu Obowo born Dee Sam Mbakwe, laid a solid foundation to the amenities which we enjoy today.
That administration, wherein the Governor was dubbed *the weeping Governor*,due to his persistent cries to the then Shehu Shagari government to improve the condition of social amenities cannot be over emphasized.
Most roads he mapped out and constructed are of high quality, they have stood the test of time. His drainage works is one in a lifetime.
Certain regimes came and destroyed all the good works of Dee Sam Mbakwe. They blocked the drainages, thereby causing flood on our roads.
As the government of Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodinma took over the reigns of power from the short lived Ihedioha administration, he proved to doubting Thomases that he is poised to leaving lasting legacies on the sands of time.
He used the first year to study the reasons why roads don't last in Imo, is it the acidic rain?, a language register employed by one past administration in the state on why roads don't last up to 6 months.
Senator Hope Uzodinma together with his Deputy, Prof. Placid Njoku, made wide concerted efforts which are yielding fruits today. The roads in the State capital are gradually wearing a new look. The hydra headed Chukwuma Nwoha, Dick Tiger, Nekede- Ihiagwa, Orlu road, Owerri- Okigwe road and many others are there for all eyes to see.
Some of them completed,some work ongoing on them. The drainages which were blocked and destroyed, are now being re-positioned as they were found in De Sam Mbakwe era.
Governor Hope Uzodinma has shown he knows the problem facing the State infrastructure wise. I have no doubt that over 60 percent of roads in both rural and urban areas will receive adequate attention before the expiration of his term in office.
We call on him to call on contractors handling these projects especially the Owerri-Okigwe roads amongst others to expedite actions, move with speed and stop painting him in bad light as if he hates the people of the areas, where the road passed through.
The days of Dee Sam Mbakwe in road and infrastructural rehabilitation has resurrected and come to full glare through the administration of Governor Uzodinma.
Just as his name implies, *UZO GA ADI MMA N'ALA IMO*
