The Executives of Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN), Imo State Chapter today met with the Director General of the Imo State Geographic Information Service Mr Chukwunyere Amaechi.
Led by the State Chairman Dr. JPK Anyanwu and National Treasurer, Arc. Frank Ajaero, the Association said they want to interface with IGIS to see areas of partnership for an effective and efficient real estate development pattern as well as mobilize people in the real estate sector to be able to work in consonance with rules, regulations and standards.
According to Dr. Anyanwu, the government should see REDAN as partners in propagating, stimulating and encouraging real estate development.
In his own contribution, the National Treasurer of REDAN, Arc. Frank Ajaero disclosed that so much is going on in the real estate sector with REDAN and called on the government to leverage on the experience and relationship with REDAN to fill the 20 million housing deficit gap in Nigeria, stating that Imo State has not benefited much from National Housing Investment programs under the Rural Urban Housing Initiative. While thanking the executive of REDAN for making out time to interface with IGIS, the Director General Mr. Chukwunyere Amaechi expressed appreciatipn for the meeting, saying the interaction is one such meetings that he has been having with a lot of bodies in the land use sector.
Mr Amaechi stated, "Before now, a lot of things have been going wrong on land related issues in our dear state and upon resumption to duty, we have taken it upon ourselves to get it right".
Going forward, the Director General exclaimed that, "I am here to to see for the good use of land and most importantly the receipt of land revenue to the government..I am fully prepared and I know where I am going. Before now, things were done haphazardly, but as it stands now, I am working for a total digitalization of the land value chain. I want a situation in Imo State where people can know the status of their land property with the push of a button anywhere in the world. These things are working in other places and I believe it should work for us here in Imo State".
"I have come to address the issue of improper practices existing before now. We must get things right" Amaechi stated.
On the issue of title deeds, Mr. Amaechi has this to say, "it is one of my top priorities to see that value are given to title deeds. Before now, bad practices which were done over the years became a norm; but I have come to get things right. Let our people begin to do the right things.
"Our people need affordable housing and from where I am coming from, affordable housing is an area that I derive so much interest in. I have seen a lot of work going on by developers in Imo State and I am assuring them collaboration towards affordable housing as long as the right things are done in achieving standard and capacity.
On the request by REDAN that all the developers in Imo State should join REDAN, the IGIS DG said, .. "Well I feel we need to have an accommodating and level playing ground for all groups and for all parties to come in...I am running an open door policy....REDAN membership will not be the basis of our engagement for now as you are just a trade union....we cannot exclude people from participating in their chosen endeavour".
In conclusion Mr. Amaechi disclosed that the construction market in Imo State is vibrant and assured that IGIS will make sure that technical standards, quality infrastructure, masterplanning, integrity and harmony will be the standard minimum requirement for all developers and developments.
