The Deputy Governor Professor Placid Njoku has visited the Acharaubo Farm Settlement in Emekuku, Owerri North Local Government Area.
Speaking at the Acharaubo Farm Settlement, the deputy governor expressed pleasant surprise at the rapid development that has taken place at the settlement in a very short period the National Agricultural Land Development Agency (NALDA) took over its resuscitation.
"When I came here about seven months ago, the entire place were bushy, today this place is being transformed. The 3R agenda of the shared prosperity government clearly shows that we will reconstruct and rehabilitate any system in Imo State that will be of value to our people".
"That is what we are trying to do here. To bring back dead systems, systems that previous governments had allowed to degenerate and decay. I will believe that if those people in the past governments come here today, they will be astonished as to what is happening here".
He applauded Governor Hope Uzodimma for his leadership sagacity and the 3R agenda that is seeing to the recovery and reconstruction of all moribund projects in the state.
Njoku also extended appreciation to President Muhammadu Buhari for resurrecting NALDA and making it more efficient and result oriented. He called on people of the community to give the project all necessary support required to make it a success.
"I think for Imo people the gain is yours. We are recovering Imo. We don't have a choice than to recover Imo for Imo people".
Fielding questions from newsmen after the inspection tour, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Livestock Development, Dr. Nwagu Cyril, said the Acharaubo Farm Settlement was being rehabilitated under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NALDA and the state government to rehabilitate and bring it back to life.
"The aim is to resuscitate that place and put it back to use, even on a higher pedestal. NALDA is trying to replicate in the state, what it did in Katsina that even attracted the presence of President Muhammadu Buhari for the commissioning".
He made it clear that plans are being put in place to put the settlement to productive use after rehabilitation, as it will be an avenue for empowerment of young farmers, under the technical supervision of experts from the ministry of livestock development.
Some of the renovated facilities inspected by the deputy governor included; The poultry, Goat/Sheep pen, piggery, among others. The deputy governor was elated about the ongoing construction of access road to the farm and the channelization of the flood that ravages the farm settlement to a nearby stream.
In the entourage of the deputy governor included; The Special Adviser to the governor on Culture and Tourism, Paddy Obinna, Special Adviser to the governor on Strategy and Planning Mrs Pat Ekennia, among others.
