As the present Imo State Government ably led by Gov. Hope Uzodimma inches towards the second year in office, one obvious fact that even opposition members clearly admit, though struggling to distract, is the undeniable fact, that Sen. Hope Uzodimma has, through intentional networking, restored Imo State as the centre piece of the Southeast.
The past 6 months has, in spite of attempts to usurp the peace of State, with the force of steel, witnessed a harvest of the gains of the concerted effort of the Governor, to market the State to the nation and attract the centre to appreciate the position of Imo State in the scheme of things.
It will be recalled that during the public hearings, held in the six Geopolitical zones of the country, for the amendment of the 1999 constitution, the slot of the Southeast zone came to Imo State. This is something that ordinarily would have held in the former Eastern capital. So all the Southeast leaders converged in Imo State to discuss how Nigeria will be governed.
Just recently, there was another public hearing, also on the basis on the six Geopolitical zones, again, the slot of the Southeast came to Imo State. So, Imo State had the opportunity to host the Southeast zonal public hearing on the review of the current revenue allocation formula.
It is noteworthy that this synergy is tilted towards the legislature, as Gov. Hope Uzodimma exploits his vast experience, as a two term Senator to build bridges across the Green and Red chambers of the National Assembly, for the benefit of Imo State. This is made possible by his ability to attract and surround himself with quality minds and notable figures in the National Assembly.
Imo is HOPEful.
