EXPERIENCE, RANKING POSITION AND TRACK RECORD— WHAT OBOWO STANDS TO GAIN BY RETURNING OUR LEGISLATOR TO IMHA. By Ugochukwu Uwazie

Political representation, in its purest and sincere form, is about attaining political power and leveraging on it to influence decisions that bring about human development, and improvement in the quality of life of those under our jurisdiction.

This is the type of politics and leadership the people have craved for for so long. Unfortunately, not many constituencies can boast of having the right representation. But in recent times, Obowo has left the league of the underrepresented. The massive empowerment programs, sectoral developments and infrastructural growth across the nooks and crannies of Obowo in recent political dispensation lays credence to the fact that the incumbent representative of Obowo at the State House of Assembly is actually on the right track.

Although it is a known fact that a good democratic representative is not likely to be approved, or even appreciated, by every one of his constituents. People would definitely have their different personal and political interests to protect. We may have our sentiments too. But no ardent Obowo political observer would fail to acknowledge the good works of our incumbent representative, the current speaker of IMHA, who has been an unbridled advocate of his constituents. Some people may not openly admit it, but believe me, they secretly admire it.

From the onset of his first tenure as a house member, Rt. Hon. Barr. Kennedy Ibeh had shown passion, willingness to reposition Obowo on the path of sustainable progress, doggedness, expertise and selflessness. And the result has been an unparalleled scorecard that stands heads and shoulders above that of his contemporaries. His recent ascension to the post of speaker wasn't much of a surprise because his capacity couldn't be readily ignored.

And as we approach another election year, Obowo people must rise with one voice to ensure that this progressive journey that Obowo has embarked upon must not be prematurely halted. It takes time and effort to acquire the needed experience, mastery, and ranking status neccesary to make the needed impact and attract constituency developmental projects. That having been acquired, coupled with the speakership position as an added advantage, Obowo now has it all, courtesy of Rt. Hon. Barr. Kennedy Ibeh. Obowo has therefore diligently laboured. And now, we are on course to reap an abundant harvest of joy. We shouldn't, and mustn't, allow that to slip from our hands.

To ensure that this opportunity doesn't slip, we must return Rt. Hon. Barr. Kennedy Ibeh to the Imo State House of Assembly. We need him now, more than ever, because of the following reasons:

In him, Obowo has a legislator who has gotten the needed experience and practical knowledge neccesary in dealing with the ever-increasing number of complex legislative issues. Sponsoring of seven bills, including the fiscal responsibility bill, sponsoring of twenty-one motions, and co-sponsporing of one hundred and fifty one motions are no mean feat.

In him, Obowo has a ranking member that would definitely retain his seat as the speaker of the house. Having an Obowian as the number three citizen of Imo State should be gratifying to all Obowians. It also ensures that Obowo is represented in every issue as regards governance in the state, which gives us an edge, more opportunities and improved dividends.

In him, Obowo has a legislator with an enviable track record. Besides his primary role as a lawmaker where he stands tall, his drive to initiate and facilitate constituency projects in Obowo is quite unprecedented. I can't list the long list of his achievements because it had been well enumerated in previous posts. The records are there for all to see.

In him, Obowo has a leader with proven integrity, a man of his words, someone that strives to keep to his promises. His "Obowo first" mantra takes precedence over every other thing.

In him, Obowo has a legislator who gets the right connection by making friends in unusual places, a man who doesn't burn bridges, a man that disagrees without being disagreeable, a man who doesn't react in anger, a man who understands that an adversary today can become an ally tommorow. This is the stuff that legislators are made of.

In him, Obowo has a legislator who stays in touch with his constituents. Show me a legislator that operates an open door policy, replies to calls, mails and letters, holds Town Hall meetings, a leader that is approachable and responsible, and I will show you Rt. Hon. Barr. Kennedy Ibeh. He knows the people and the people know him.

In him, Obowo has a problem solver who uses his office to help communities in Obowo constituency find solutions to pressing issues like power distribution, renovation of school blocks, market needs, ICT advancement, etc. He has this perfect working relationship with state agencies and the local government to finds best solutions at all times.

With all these, we can all agree that the next four years hold great promise for Obowo as a constituency only if we can jettison personal interests and work for the collective interest of Obowians. The opportunity beckons!
