*The Woman who works round the clock Dr Betta Edu “Sarkin Aiki”*
It’s been one week of closely monitoring the activities of the Newly Sworn in Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Dr Betta Edu and I must commend President Bola Tinubu for getting this position so right.
I called this evening to seek for appointment to meet with Dr Edu believing that it was weekend and she would have some free time to engage. However, I was shocked to learn from her aides that she has been at work all day after a church service, holding meetings after meetings to coordinate humanitarian response for Nigerians affected by humanitarian crisis within and outside the country. This came as a surprise because the usual politician or at least everyone I knew were literally free over the weekend.
It has been an engaging week for the Young minister who went from Inauguration to office, held management meeting and hand over process occurred , and then held top level engagements with the country head of UNICEF, OCHA and other UN Agencies. Her University, the University of Calabar had the VC and senior management team pay a courtesy call on Dr Betta, pledging the support on education and job ceartion using the skill acquisition center in the university.
The workerholic minister I gathered have already completed the presentation and brief by all the Departments, Units and boards supervised by her ministry giving her the full grasp of the workings of the ministry. This is a leading example when some new ministers are yet to commence that process. She has equally had several TV appearances this passed week; setting the agenda for her ministry and letting Nigeria know what to expect.
For the ministry it is a new energy level they are not use to as some workers testify that it’s an 8am- 9pm work schedule for the hardworking minister… “she has woken everyone up in this ministry and motivated us to give our best!” On arrival we got a new generator for the Ministry because she stays late and needs to work. The dead batteries in the inverter have all been replaced. Everyone is fully on board and we feel the difference, her energy level, innovation, intelligence and depth of understanding of the issues is epic”.
President Tinubu got the right woman for the Job. Her passion, determination, wisdom and commitment including hard work is what Nigerians need to bring about a renewed hope🔥✌️
