No sane mind will join the bandwagon against his or her own State.
We truly have no reward in the continued effrontery of supporting criminality against our own State. We owe ourselves the duty of patriotism to be on one page against the festering criminal impunity costing us our human capital. The elites, the youths, our mothers, our Community President Generals, the Traditional rulers, the church and our political leaders of various political derivations need to agree, if not in all other issues, in the safety, serenity and well-being of IMO State. Imo State is our nest and we are all stakeholders in whatever happens here.
We can't stand in sympathy with hoodlums ravaging our collective peace; we can't make it look like we are not interested just because our political party is not in power. No government lasts forever.
The security of lives and properties is the primary business of the State. When a challenge that stretches the security apparatchik of the State comes the way of the State, it is not only normal but conventional that the State seeks for federal assistance to contain the problem. The idea is to restore peace and not to kill citizens as the opposition elements would twist it to mean. The problem in the present Imo scenario is that the police and soldiers have lost quite a number of their men in unprovoked attacks against them. They too are humans. Not seeking the help of these operatives would have left Imo in more collateral losses than what we now have. Either ways, there must be issues but the lesser cost is to restore normalcy through the use of reinforced security operatives.
It must be stated here that if there is an inevitable reason, as was the case in Imo when police stations, checkpoints, local government headquarters, INEC offices etc were being senselessly torched, the security operatives are invited via persuasive means to work within the normal rules of engagement. I am a witness that the present State Government always harps on these rules of engagement in many usually repeated interactive sessions with the hierarchies of the security operatives.
The blame really is on the criminals who use human shield in their operations. They deceive many to hail them and allow them operate within their homesteads.
All we need to realize is that with our vigilance, outspokenness and intelligence, we can support the return to normalcy by working hands in gloves with the security operatives. Through discrete but actionable intelligence, we can dislodge all manners of criminals from our homestead.
We owe that to our own peace and progress.
However, allowing these hoodlums the security of our homestead only robs us the serenity of the place and make warfronts where our nests should be.
Let's patiently work towards the restoration of our peace again. We can. We should. We truly have no other option than that.
