We are happy to report that on Thursday July 29 2021, the handsome little boy stolen from Akwa Ibom by one Mfom and Esther, which story went viral, is now in the custody of the Commissioner for Women Affairs Akwa Ibom State. Imo State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Lady Nkechinyere Ugwu safely transfered the boy to the Akwa Ibom Ministry of Woman Affairs. His parents who reported him missing has been identified and the boy will be reunited with his family.
Receiving the child, the delegates from Akwa Ibom Ministry of Women Affairs showered their unreserved appreciation to the Imo First Lady, Barr. Mrs. Chioma Uzodimma, and the Ministry of Women Affairs and Vulnerable Groups, Imo State, for their timely intervention in rescuing the child, and ensuring he was in safe hands and well taken care of while in the custody of the State.
Imo First Lady, Her Excellency, Barrister Mrs. Chioma Uzodimma and Akwa Ibom First Lady, Her Excellency Dr. Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel, worked tirelessly with the police departments and ministry's in their respective states, to make this possible. It is good to note that today is *WORLD DAY AGAINST TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS* and what better way to celebrate than making sure this family is reunited.
The theme for this year's World day against trafficking in persons is *VICTIMS VOICES LEAD THE WAY*. It puts victims of human trafficking at the centre of the campaign to highlight the importance of listening to and learning from survivors of human trafficking. They will play an important role in establishing effective measures to prevent this crime, identify and rescue victims and support them on their road to rehabilitation. Unfortunately, children are not able to voice their experiences. Taking children out of their protective environment and preying on their vulnerability for the purpose of gain and exploitation is an act of wickedness. We are continually working to put measures in place to reduce the trauma and psychological damage on children from this sinister act.
Our thanks and appreciation goes to all relevant agencies that are working with us to curb this menace and eradicate child kidnapping and trafficking in Imo State and all over the word.
TO GOD BE ALL GLORY!!
