Uzodinma's administration to create development centers to bring government closer to communities. .......Raised IGR from 600 million naira to over 1 billion naira. By Chima Okoroafor

 



This revelations came to light during the periodic "state" of IMO address by Senator Hope Uzodinma to critical stakeholders on Saturday 24/07/2021, at Eze-Imo palace Mbari, Owerri.



....... "The local government visit to government house few weeks ago, was a great opportunity for me to interact with leaders from the respective local governments across party lines, and I found the interaction very reassuring".....



Uzodinma said nothing could be more unsettling and traumatic to people than coming out of COVID-19 pandemic, Endsars demonstrations to  security challenges of imaginable proportion. He promised to create an enabling environment for people to ply their   trade without fear and related encumbrances.

......He used the convocation to extend the profound gratitude of government and people of Imo State to all the security agencies in the state for their invaluable contribution to the peace we enjoy today.



The governor said it took a firm decision by his administration to raise the revenue profile of the state, from over reliance on federal allocation to a robust internally generated revenue which grew from 600 million naira on inception to over 1billion every month.


.....the governor also catalogued the achievement of his administration in the past one year as follows......

...... rehabilitation of the state secretariat, fixing the rusty and filthy environment. The administration also created a platform for continuous training and retraining programs for the state workforce. In addition he said salaries are paid as at when due.


....... fiscal automation....the governor said Imo state now have fully automated financial records and payroll that has drastically reduced corrupt practices and as a result, salaries and pensions are paid regularly.


........road infrastructure, by the last count according to the Governor 42 roads projects have been completed. He also said the administrations signature project of the dualization of Owerri-Orlu and Owerri-Okigwe roads are on course. On the designer roundabout of warehouse and fire service junction, he said one will not be faulted if they mistake them to be foreign landscapes in US or Britain.


......he said the administration has made giant strides in education, in the establishment of fully owned state university of Agriculture and environmental sciences, full takeover of Eastern palm University from the clutches of those who appropriated it as their private investment. He revealed that the state has in it's kitty a new federal teaching college in Umuaka Orlu.......the governor also said work is currently ongoing in the construction of 305 modern classroom blocks in the 305 electoral wards in the state. This primary school he said will be equipped with modern  libraries, IT center and modern laboratories.


Other accomplishments of the administration includes Adapalm which is now producing over 100,000 metric tons of red oil and will soon engage up to 30,000 workforce.


On health care, through private sector collaboration and support, 250 bed specialist hospital is on the way at Imo state University teaching Hospital (IMSUT) and the construction of emergency operations center (EOP) at the general hospital Umuguma. The administration also has provided support ambulance to all 27 local government areas, and is currently rebuilding and reequipping 305 health centers in 305 INEC wards in the state.


......on youth empowerment, he said the state has expensed 8 billion on youth empowerment, the objective he said is to ensure youths do not recourse to crime.


The governor further said it was the realization of the need to turn the LGA into engine room of the integrated development initiatives of government, that informed the decision to revive the development centers. He said henceforth, the people will determine who leads them in the LGA administration based on popular will and acceptance. 


The governor further said, in a civilized society, certain conducts are considered reprehensible, when God has thrown one up as a trustee of the trust, such person must find the discipline to resist the temptations to betray the trust. This is why I want to reiterate before you that I did not become governor to become richer than the state after my tenure, but to serve in truth and with the fear of God. The stakeholders meeting observed a minute silence in honor of those who lost their lives during the security skirmishes in the state.
