In the afternoon of today, the State Working Committee (SWC) Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi state visited the Honourable Member representing Ezza South/Ikwo constituency in the National Assembly, Hon Comrade Chinedu Ogah, OON at his Abakaliki residence to commiserate with him over the loss of his son, Comrade Ogochukwu Elem. Some of the family members of the the deceased who were at the residence of Comrade Ogah mourning were also consoled.
Comrade Ogochukwu David Elem until his death was the Chief of Staff and Senior Legislative Aide to Comrade Chinedu Ogah and also doubled as the State Youth Leader of the APC in Ebonyi state. Unfortunately, he died four days ago in a ghastly motor accident.
Speaking on behalf of the party executives, the State Chairman of the APC, Chief Hon Stanley Okoro Emegha expressed shock over the unfortunate death of one of their colleagues, Comrade Elem, noting that the exit has created a vacuum too difficult to fill. He described the late Youth Leader as a unifying factor who always ensured there was unity or harmony amongst the party executives, adding that he was vibrant and committed to duty when alive.
"Indeed, we lack words to describe the late Youth Leader. He was dedicated to duty, vibrant, obedient and hardworking. He was a unifying factor and source of encouragement to us, hence he never allowed us to have issues with each other.
"He knew party politics and no major assignment in the party he was not part of. He always called every morning to know about the activities of the party and what he would do for the party. The governor and party leaders loved him because of his humility and commitment to duty."
Chief Emegha encouraged Comrade Ogah, the late Youth Leader's wife and family members to bear the irreplaceable loss and prayed God to comfort them. He assured the readiness of the party to participate actively in the burial, gave out undisclosed cash as financial assistance for the planning of the burial and promised to open a bank account for the son of the deceased and credit it with a huge amount of money in order to help train up the children, as directed by the state governor.
In reaction, Comrade Chinedu Ogah described his late godson, Comrade Elem as the best to work with, stressing that he was selfless, committed, sincere and a hardworking young man. He said, the death has caused him pains due to the immeasurable love he has for his late boy.
"I came to know Ogoo when he was in the university. I paid his school fees even when I had not known him. I saw the light in him as a young guy and we became close. After his graduation, I assisted and secured a job for him in EBBC as a journalist. When I became an Honourable Member, I made him my Chief of Staff and Senior Legislative Aide. Months ago, l influenced his becoming the State Youth Leader of our party.
"Ogoo was too selfless. He has two of his brothers who are graduates but he never recommended them to me for employment. Rather, he used to recommend others. I gave one of his brothers job without knowing it's Ogoo's brother. When I discovered, Ogoo told me that he didn't want to be selfish by attracting everything to his family since there are others whose condition is worse.
"I trusted him so much that he was the one managing all my property. He had more knowledge about my property than myself. He knew everything about me due to our closeness.
"I bought a car for him and gave him a driver and asked him to stop using the car he used and had the accident. When he was having a security challenge, I gave him two policemen to be guarding him. How it happened that Ogoo is no more is what I don't know. I will never abandon the family. His children, wife, brothers and parents are the Ogoo I'm seeing today, and I will do my best to ensure they lack nothing ".
Comrade Ogah however, thanked the state governor, Engr Chief David Nweze Umahi and the State Working Committee Members of the party for being with them at this moment of grief.
Late Comrade Elem shall be buried next tomorrow (20th August, 2021) while the Christian wake comes up tomorrow, all at his place in Ebianji Noyo in Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi state.
