The attention of the Honourable Commissioner for Transport, Chief Barr. Rex C. Anunobi and the management of the Ministry of Transport have been drawn to a malicious and falsehood on the purported arrest of the Commissioner.
We therefore wish to state that at no time was the Honourable Commissioner for Transport, Chief Barr. Rex Anunobi, arrested as reported by a particular local tabloid and circulated on the social media.
We also wish to restate that the Honourable Commissioner for Transport and the management of the Ministry of Transport in the exercise of their core mandate and in line with due process shall continue to deploy Enforcement Teams constituted by the staff of Minitry of Transport and personnel of Imo State Civil Guard transforming into Imo State Traffic Management Authority (ISTMA) to effectively control and manage traffic; and also enforce restriction of Heavy Duty Trucks from plying into and through Owerri municipality within the restricted hours.
Also worthy to mention is that the enforcement teams strategically deployed are not working in isolation hence the Imo Internal Revenue Service (IIRS) attaches its officials with POS for instant collection and payment into Treasury Single Account (TSA) of all fines payable by defaulting motorists.
This is to say that the Enforcement Teams of the Ministry of Transport working in the field are legitimately deployed and undeniably on legal duty.
We, therefore, implore members of the public to disregard the infantile but failed attempt by some disgruntled fellows to discredit the good intentions and genuine efforts of the Honourable Commissioner for Transport, Barr. Rex Anunobi, who is ever committed to restoring sanity and discipline in the transportation sector in accordance with the vision of the Shared Prosperity Government of Senator Hope Uzodinma.
