Representative Eddie Bernice Johnson is 85 years old. She is an African American and a member of the Democratic Party in the United States of America. Rep. Bernice has represented the State of Texas in the U.S Congress for nearly 30 years.
However, she is retiring in January 2023. Last week, I wrote about Senator Patrick Leahy retiring from serving in the U.S Senate after 48 years.
President Joe Biden was elected senator on January 3, 1973, and served there will January 15, 2009(36 years, 20 days) when he was elected vice president.
The Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Hon. Nancy Patricia Pelosi was first elected to the U.S congress in 1987. She has served for 34 years.
Senator Robert C.Bryd served from January 3, 1959, to June 28, 2010(51 years, five months, and 26 days).
The oldest senator in the USA is Senator Dianne Goldman Berman Feinstein. She was born on June 22, 1932. She was elected senator to represent California on November 4, 1992.
The first presidential constitution that introduced the American presidential system of government was the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1979. The constitution was drafted by 49 Wisemen chaired by late Chief Fredrick Rotimi Williams, SAN.
The present Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) also modeled after the American presidential style.
In light of this, I like using precedence and experiences in the United States of America to compare and contrast Nigerian political thought and experiences.
When interpreting our constitution, even Nigerian judges draw from American precedence and experiences because of the similarity between the American constitution and the Nigerian constitution.
We can see that in the United States of America, legislators are very experienced and competent people.
In Nigeria, we have a high turnout of legislators because of political expedience such as zoning of positions, etc.
