IMO GUBER: ATHAN ACHONU'S INTERVIEW ON CHANNELS TV THREATENS THE PEACE OF IMO ELECTION, BLAME IG OF POLICE FOR IRREGULARITIES.
It was a show of rascality and act of thuggery for someone seeking the number one seat of a state to go wired on a national television. The public outburst of Senator Athan Achonu on Channels Television yesterday calling the Inspector General of Police names and tagging him wrongly was highly misplaced, irresponsible and totally unacceptable of someone of his status. Athan Achonu on Channels Television wrongly accused the Inspector General of police of trying to cause mayhem in Imo State. He publicly declared what could be termed as war against the IG of police and the good people of Imo State. He also threatened to disrupt the peace of Imo State especially with respect to the coming November 11, 2023 governorship election in the state, having recruited a militant group and armed them with sophisticated weapons to make sure the election didn't go as planned both for the INEC, security agencies, political parties and the law abiding electorates ready to exercise their civic franchise.
This threat from Athan Achonu is coming as a reaction to his removal from the electioneering process in Imo State by the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court has authenticated Chief Joseph Ukaegbu as the rightful candidate of Labour Party in the gubernatorial election in Imo State. This court pronouncement led to his abandonment by his party supporters and Obidient youths in the state hence, his reason for employing the 'do or die' approach.
This is also a call to the Inspector General of Police and other relevant security agents not to take the threat from Athan Achonu as mere frustration and anger but a valid statement from a man whose only language he understands most is violence and disruption. He's a man well known for violence in Imo State and someone who believe in the use of militant group to get whatever he wants at any moment by force.
This must not be allowed to be one of such occasions he perpetrates violence and get away with them. In fact, the Inspector General of Police and other security agents must not even allow him to carry out this devish act of his as the security of lives and properties of the good people of Imo State must be protected as guaranteed by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.
