PRESS RELEASE: IMO FIRST LADY REACHES OUT TO A 15 YEAR OLD MOTHER OF TWINS , VICTIM OF RAPE AND CHILD DEFILEMENT

  


Friday 23rd of April 2021, Her Excellency the Wife of the Governor, Barr Mrs. Chioma Uzodimma  through the Imo state commissioner for Women affairs and vulnerable groups, Lady Nkechinyere Ugwu  reached  out  to the15 year old  Miss Achilike, an Imo daughter from ubomiri in Mbatoli Local Government area, whose story has gone viral. She is a rape victim  who  was unfortunately impregnated through the process but was however delivered of a set of twins, a boy and girl. 

During the visit, Ugwu handed over to the mother of the 15 year old relief items like cartons of baby Milk, cartons of baby diapers, boxes of baby wipes, cartons of Soaps, cartons of baby power, cartons of baby lotion and oil, bag of Rice and an envelope. She disclosed that the Imo first lady, Barr Mrs. Chioma Uzodimma has reiterated her committed advocacy against rape, child defilement, sexual defilement and all forms of violence against women and girls and enjoined parents to keep an eye on their girl child  and wards to actions that could expose them to danger. She advised the 15 year old not see herself as failure or the situation as a set back and gave the assurance she will go back to school to further her education. 

She further said the domestication of VAPP bill sets out with provision that will help to protect the vulnerable segment of the society from the onslaught of society deviants. She stressed the  need for the introduction of sex offenders register. She expressed optimism that the passage and domestication of the bill in the state will be of immense help to the fight to eliminate all forms of violence against persons and gender-based violence such as rape, defilement, battery, Female Genital mutilation, etc. 

"Her Excellency, Barrister Mrs. Chioma Uzodimma wishes to thank all the citizens and groups in imo that have reached out to our daughter. She appreciates all your cares and concern and is elated to see Imo people always caring for their own. Government cannot do it alone and anyone that can help in any way, a son or daughter of Imo is doing God's work. TOGETHER WE CAN make a lot of difference. Her Excellency has also directed that the culprits must be fished out and made to face the law over their crime", the Hon. Commisioner intoned. 

Receiving the items,  the mother of the 15 year old, Mrs Lynda Achilke overwhelmed with joy expressed appreciation to  the first lady  and her office for the  speedy intervention and the largese. She thanked the  honorable commissioner and her entourage for the  visit and prayed God to reward them abundantly. The Commissioner was accompanied to the hospital by the director Child development, Mr Benjamin Amaefule, SA to the Commissioner, Mrs Chinwe Nwokeji, The Public relations officer of the Ministry, Mrs Vivien Onwuka, the Media aide to the Hon Commissioner Princess Zara Eberechukwu amongst others.
