In the bid to improve and reposition the well-being of persons with disabilities in the country, the workaholic legislator representing the good people of Okigwe North Federal Constituency and the Chairman, House Committee On Persons Living With Disabilities at the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Princess Miriam Onuoha has moved a motion on the need to ratify the United Nations Convention on the rights of persons with disabilities.
The lawmaker made the motion during plenary session on the 25th Nov 2021, which was seconded by Hon. Abdulganiyu Johnson. It was believed that with the motion, many restrictions and limitations in line to rights and privileges enjoyed by others will be extended to the disable community.
Hon. Princess Miriam emphasized on the importance of the mainstream disability issues as an integral part of the relevant strategies for sustainable development.
There was a call for legal framework to establish some infrastructural facilities for persons with disabilities, which will help to integrate them fully into the society to enable them contribute in no small measures to the development of the country.
